🕌 Worship in the home · #145
When staying overnight at my in-laws', who should lead the prayer: my father-in-law or me as the son-in-law?
The head of the house has more right to lead the prayer in his own home, unless he himself invites someone else. So the proper etiquette is to wait for your father-in-law to take his place or invite you. If he invites you, accept humbly and choose a moderate recitation. If your father-in-law is frail or less confident in his recitation, do not offer yourself openly in front of the family. Whisper to your spouse so that they can ask their father gently. Small things like this often decide whether a son-in-law is seen as respectful or as taking over. Also invite the brothers-in-law to take turns leading, so that no one feels left out. See in-laws.
