🕌 Worship in the home · #137
My Qur'an recitation is better than my husband's. Who should lead the prayer at home?
The husband still leads as imam when there is an adult man in the congregation, because a woman's leading men in prayer is not valid. Your stronger recitation is nothing to hide; it can be a gift to your husband. As long as your husband's recitation of al-Fatihah is correct and does not change the meaning, praying behind him is valid. Help him privately if there are noticeable mistakes, not in front of the children. For example, invite him: ‘Abang, let's go over al-Fatihah together (tasmik) after Isyak. I want to improve my recitation too.’ This preserves his dignity as imam and makes learning an act of worship for you both. If you are unsure about mistakes that could affect the validity of the prayer, ask a Qur'an teacher or the religious office. See congregational prayer guide.
