🕌 Worship in the home · #185

My husband has heart disease but very much wants to perform umrah with me. How do we decide?

This decision has to begin with the doctor's advice, and then be organised with careful preparation. Many people with chronic illnesses are able to perform umrah when their condition is stable and the trip is well planned. Take your husband to see his specialist and ask specifically about physical activity, hot weather and long-haul flights. If the doctor allows it, choose a package that is not packed and a hotel close to the mosque, and consider a wheelchair for tawaf and sa'i. Bring enough medicine and a short health summary letter. If the doctor advises postponing, accept it with contentment; a sincere intention is still counted by Allah. Allah does not burden a soul “beyond what it can bear” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:286). See umrah together.
