🕌 Worship in the home · #184
Family and friends expect souvenirs when we return from umrah. Is it right for us to feel burdened?
Souvenirs are not part of the worship, so you need not feel guilty about giving only modestly. Some pilgrims spend so much time and money shopping that their worship suffers. Set a souvenir budget before you leave, and buy in the last few days after your worship goals have been met. Choose simple, meaningful things, such as dates, zamzam water within the permitted limit, or a small prayer mat. The best souvenir is really a prayer that mentions their names in the Holy Land. Say honestly, ‘We didn't have time to buy much, but we mentioned everyone's name in our prayers there.’ Most people will value that prayer more. See family finances.
