Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #254

Can I trust my spouse to go out with their friends without me?

Reasonable trust strengthens a relationship, as long as the socialising is within the limits of Islamic law and open. Give your spouse fair room to meet good friends of the same gender, because total control is suffocating. At the same time, socialising must keep religious boundaries and not affect family responsibilities. Ask for openness about where and with whom, not as an investigation but as good manners. If you have concerns, discuss them calmly. Agree on boundaries you are both comfortable with so there is no suspicion later. A balance of trust and boundaries protects the relationship. See rights of husband and wife.
