Our family has received good news. Can we do a prostration of thanks (sujud syukur) together as a family?
Yes; the prostration of thanks is sunnah on receiving a new blessing or being saved from a calamity. It is a single prostration done outside the prayer. In the Shafi'i school, it is done in a state of purity, with the aurat covered and facing the qiblah, like the prostration of recitation outside the prayer. Learn the steps from a trusted teacher or fiqh book if you are not yet familiar with it. When a child passes an exam or a family member recovers from illness, invite everyone to take wudu', then prostrate together while praising Allah. Afterwards, explain to the children why we thank Allah first before celebrating. This habit teaches them that every success comes from Him. See prayer and supplication.
