Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #155

Both sides of the family want us to break the fast at their house throughout Ramadan. How do we divide it fairly?

Plan early with a balanced schedule, so that neither side feels left out. Sit down together before Ramadan and list the weekends or evenings available. Divide them fairly, taking into account distance, the parents' health, and whether they live alone. Keep some evenings for breaking the fast at your own home too, because your small family also needs its own Ramadan atmosphere. Let the schedule be conveyed to each set of parents by their own child, not by the in-law. For example, the husband tells his mother, ‘Mak, we'll come every Saturday, OK?’ If one parent is frail or lonely, extra visits for them are fairness, not favouritism. See in-laws.
