Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #163

We would like to invite neighbours and relatives to break the fast at our home, but our budget is limited. How can we do it?

A simple iftar meal still has great value, because what counts is sincerity, not the number of dishes. Choose one or two filling main dishes, such as bubur lambuk (spiced rice porridge) or rice with a simple side dish, plus dates and water. Invite people in small groups throughout the month, not all at once in a big event. With close relatives, you can also ask each family to bring one dish, so that the cost is shared and the atmosphere is warmer. Involve the children in serving food to the guests, because the etiquette of honouring guests is hard to teach through words alone. Avoid going into debt to entertain; hosting with what you have is more blessed than showing off with borrowed money. See family finances.
