Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #160

Phones and television take up a large part of our family's time in Ramadan. How do we cut down?

Replace, don't just forbid; screen time is easier to reduce when other activities fill the gap. Choose the two most valuable screen-free times, for example after Subuh and just before iftar. Fill those times with a short tadarus, helping in the kitchen or talking about the stories of the prophets. Parents need to start first, because children copy hands holding the Qur'an more than they follow instructions. Put all the phones in one basket during iftar and Tarawih. At weekends, plan outside activities such as taking food to the neighbours. Two protected times every day work better than an all-day ban that eventually fails. See digital family.
