Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #273

My spouse is changing for the better. How do I support that change?

Support your spouse's good change with encouragement and patience, not with doubt or by dragging up the past. When your spouse is trying to become better, celebrate every step, however small. Avoid saying ‘how long is this going to last’, because it crushes their spirit. Join in the change if you can, so the two of you move forward together. Be patient when they stumble, because change is rarely a straight line. Pray for their steadfastness and praise their efforts. A spouse who is supported while changing is more likely to stay steadfast (istiqamah). See communication & emotions.
