Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #228

I often think life would be better with someone else. How do I learn to be grateful for the spouse I have?

Daydreams about another life rob you of the happiness that is actually in front of you. Allah says: “And do not covet that in which Allah has favoured some of you over others” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:32). Wandering thoughts like these usually appear when you are bored or angry, not because your spouse is truly lacking. Turn your focus to your spouse's good points that you have forgotten, and give thanks for them. If there is something you want to improve, work on it together openly. Invest your energy in building what you have, not chasing a shadow that does not exist. Other people's homes have their trials too, which you do not see. See rights of husband and wife.
