🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #369

Every time we go home on holiday, we quarrel over time for my family and my spouse's family. How do we keep it fair?

A limited trip home is calmer when time for both families is planned early, not fought over at the last minute. Sit together before going home and divide the days fairly, taking into account distance and parents who are elderly or ill. Tell both families the schedule early so that no one feels hurt. Avoid spending the whole holiday visiting until you yourselves are exhausted with no rest. If you cannot get to everyone, explain kindly and make up for it with calls. Make your visits for the sake of Allah and out of love, not because of social pressure. See in-laws.
