Q&A › Rights & responsibilities

🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #107

Every weekend we argue about whose family to visit. How do we keep it fair?

Make a fair rota between both sides of the family so that visits become a joy, not a race. Sit together and plan several weeks ahead at once, taking into account distance and parents who are ill or very old. The family in greater need at the time can be given priority without the other side being neglected. Keeping family ties (silaturahim) with both sides is a religious duty, so intend the visits for Allah's sake, not out of pressure. Avoid comparing how one family treats you with the other. With an agreed schedule, the weekend arguments will ease. See in-laws.
