My own family does not like my spouse. How should I act?
Stand by your spouse while still honouring your family; you do not have to choose one absolutely over the other. Listen to your family's concerns with an open mind, because sometimes they see things you have overlooked. If those concerns are unfounded, defend your spouse calmly and do not allow them to be insulted in front of you. Give your family the chance to see your spouse's good side through relaxed get-togethers. Avoid passing on every unkind word from your family to your spouse, because it plants lasting wounds. With time and good character, many hard hearts eventually soften. If it drags on, a family counsellor can help. See counselling.
