🕌 Worship in the home · #166

When breaking the fast at home, should we eat first or pray Maghrib in congregation first?

Many families choose to break the fast with something light, then pray Maghrib in congregation, and only then eat the main meal. Hastening to break the fast is sunnah, and dates or water are enough to break it. This way combines two good things: breaking the fast right on time and praying early in its time with the family. However, if the meal is already served and you badly want it, there is nothing wrong with eating enough first so that the prayer is more focused, as long as the prayer is not left too late. Set out the prayer mats and prayer space before the azan so that the move from table to row is smoother. Discuss which way suits your family best, especially if you have young children who get hungry easily. See Ramadan as a family.
