Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #164

Every Ramadan we end up buying too much food at the bazaar and a lot is wasted. How do we change this?

Set rules before leaving the house, because buying decisions made while hungry are rarely wise. List what you want to buy and how much, then bring only that amount in cash. Go to the bazaar with just one or two people, not the whole hungry family. Teach the children to take turns choosing one favourite dish each day. If there are still leftovers, plan to finish them at sahur or share them with neighbours before they spoil. Allah says: “eat and drink, but do not be excessive. Indeed Allah does not love those who are excessive” (Surah al-A'raf 7:31). The spirit of Ramadan is self-restraint, including when shopping. See family finances.
