Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #174

We have only enough money for one hajj. Should I go first, or send my mother who has never performed hajj?

If hajj has already become obligatory on you because you are able and your turn has come, your own hajj comes first. The obligation of hajj lies on each individual who is able, and helping your mother is a great kindness but does not remove your own obligation. But the real situation is often more complicated: your turn may not have come yet, your mother may be growing frail, or she may already have some savings of her own. List these facts first. Some families choose to cover the mother's costs while continuing to save for themselves, especially when the mother's health is declining. Because the answer depends on the circumstances, discuss it with an officer at the state religious office or a trusted ustaz before deciding. See devotion to parents.
