🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #39
Is it true that parents' prayers for their children are answered, and which prayers can be used?
It is true; a father's (and mother's) prayer for their child is named among the prayers that are not rejected, so use it for good and never for harm.
The Prophet ﷺ said: three prayers are answered without doubt — the prayer of a father, the prayer of a traveller and the prayer of the one who is wronged (Sunan Abu Dawud 1536). Among the Quran's prayers for offspring: the prayer of the Prophet Ibrahim that he and his descendants keep up the prayer (Ibrahim 14:40), the prayer for spouses and offspring who are the comfort of our eyes (al-Furqan 25:74), and the prayer in al-Ahqaf 46:15 asking for goodness in one's offspring. Pray for your child by name, especially when they are being tested — exams, illness, a teenager drifting away. An angry parent's prayer may also be answered, so guard your tongue when angry. See Supplication & prayer.
