Should every major family decision be discussed between the two of us, or is it enough for the husband to decide?
A husband's leadership does not mean deciding alone; it is exercised through consultation that respects his wife. Allah praises the believers whose “affairs are decided by mutual consultation among them” (Surah asy-Syura 42:38). Major decisions such as moving house, finances, the children's education and careers should be discussed so that both of you own the decision together. Take your wife's views seriously, because she often sees what is missed. When you disagree, look for a middle way; a husband who must decide after consulting should do so fairly and with full trustworthiness. Decisions agreed together are easier to carry out together.
