Should our household matters be kept private from both sides of the extended family?
The internal matters of a marriage are best kept between the two of you, not broadcast to the extended family every time you quarrel. Complaining to your parents while angry often creates lasting prejudice, while the two of you may have made up by the next day. Resolve personal issues between yourselves first, and keep your spouse's faults from becoming family gossip. This is different from seeking knowledgeable advice when you truly need it, or when there is danger. Set boundaries you both agree on about what may be shared. Trust grows when your spouse knows their secrets are safe with you. If a major conflict drags on, see a counsellor. See counselling.
