Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #101

How do I teach my child to perform wudu' and purify himself properly at this age?

Teach purification in stages and in practice, because children learn better by watching and trying than by listening alone. Show the steps of wudu' one by one and let him follow while you watch patiently. Explain what it means to be clean before facing Allah so that he understands the purpose, not just memorises it. Also teach the etiquette of istinjak (cleaning oneself after the toilet) and keeping clothes clean. Correct mistakes gently and repeat several times without scolding. For more detailed fiqh questions as he grows, refer to a teacher or reliable materials. Praise him when he does wudu' by himself without being told. See prayer guide.
