Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #100

My child keeps comparing his things with his friends' and feels he never has enough. How do I teach him gratitude?

Gratitude is taught through daily habits and example, not just a telling-off when a child complains. Get your child used to naming the blessings he has every day, such as health, family and food. Involve him in giving to those in need so that he sees how many are less fortunate. Avoid granting every request immediately, because a sense of having enough grows from waiting and working for things. Nor should you compare him with other children, because that is exactly what you want him to stop doing. Show that you yourself are grateful and do not spend under pressure from others. A grateful child is calmer and more generous. See educating the family.
