How do I nurture honesty in my child before lying becomes a problem?

Honesty is nurtured when a child sees his parents being honest and when telling the truth does not bring frightening consequences. Be the example: keep your promises to your child and do not lie in front of him, not even small lies. The Prophet ﷺ is the best example to follow, as Allah says: “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example” (Surah al-Ahzab 33:21). When a child admits a wrong, appreciate his honesty first before correcting the matter, so that he does not learn to hide things. Tell stories of honesty that led to good. Avoid trapping your child with questions that push him to lie. See educating the family.
