Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #93

How can household chores build a child's character rather than just being a punishment?

Make chores part of being a contributing member of the family, not a penalty when a child does wrong. Give tasks suited to his age, such as tidying his room or helping in the kitchen, and show him how patiently before expecting him to be good at it. Do it together at first so that it feels like teamwork, not a burden. Appreciate his effort with a thank-you, not only correcting him when it is not perfect. Do not use chores as punishment, because that plants a hatred of them. A child used to contributing grows up responsible and not spoilt. See educating the family.
