Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #166

As a father, what is my role in nurturing the relationship between my children in two homes?

As the father, you are the main bridge joining the children in two homes into one extended family. Speak of the children in the other home with love in front of each child, so that they grow up feeling one another as family, not rivals. Plan time for everyone to gather, and make sure no child feels left out in attention or gifts. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Be conscious of Allah and act justly among your children” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2587). Fairness in treatment removes the main cause of quarrels. Be the example of keeping family ties (silaturahim) by showing yourself how to love and respect every child. See children in polygyny.
