I am still paying maintenance for children from a previous marriage. Does this affect my polygyny application?

Yes, it is part of your commitments and must be declared; the court assesses your ability to support all your dependants, not just wives. List the amount of child maintenance you pay and whether it was ordered by a court. If there are arrears, settle them or make a repayment plan first. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Delaying the payment of a debt by someone who is capable is an injustice” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2400). Child maintenance arrears are a debt, and adding a marriage before clearing them is hard to defend.
