Q&A › Polygyny: the law

🏛️ Polygyny: the law · #79

I am not objecting, but I want the children's maintenance secured. What should I prepare before the polygyny hearing?

Prepare a list of your family's actual expenses, because clear figures are an easier basis for an order than general worries. Note the household's monthly spending: food, rent or instalments, utilities, school fees, transport, medical care and your children's special needs. Keep the receipts or statements that back them up. Before the judge, say calmly that you are not objecting, but you ask that this maintenance be ensured to continue. The court can attach conditions or make orders on maintenance when approving the application. If you and your husband can agree earlier, a sulh session can help record that agreement. See maintenance orders on approval.
