Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #243

I often focus on my spouse's shortcomings. How do I learn to celebrate their strengths?

No spouse is perfect, so demanding perfection only plants endless disappointment. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Let no believing man hate a believing woman. If he dislikes one of her traits, he will be pleased with another” (Sahih Muslim, Book of Suckling). Train your eyes to look for your spouse's strengths, not only their shortcomings. Each time a weakness bothers you, balance it by remembering several of their good points. Tell them about those strengths, not just keep them in your heart. Accept small, harmless weaknesses as part of being human. A fair view makes a marriage calmer. See rights of husband and wife.
