My wife has had a miscarriage and is grieving deeply. How should I support her?

A miscarriage is a real loss, so give your wife room to grieve without hurrying her to ‘be strong’. Stay with her, listen without correcting, and avoid words like ‘we can try again’ that feel as though they make light of her grief. Share the sorrow together; you have suffered a loss too. Gently remind her that this is Allah's decree and not her fault, because “Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:286). Take care of the household so she can rest and recover. If her grief is deep and prolonged, encourage her to see a doctor or counsellor. Pray together; many couples find that prayer soothes this wound. See mental health.
