Q&A › Rights & responsibilities

🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #235

My spouse has an intimacy problem that embarrasses them. How should I respond?

Your attitude at this time matters a great deal: be a supporter who protects their dignity, not a critic who adds to their wound. Never spread this problem to family or friends. The Prophet ﷺ warned that among the worst of people before Allah is “the man who is intimate with his wife and she with him, and then he spreads her secret” (Sahih Muslim, Book of Marriage). Reassure your spouse that you still love them, and encourage them to see a doctor without forcing or mocking them. Face this problem as a team, with patience and prayer. Dignity that is protected strengthens the trust between you. See intimacy etiquette.
