Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #418

My spouse is a convert and is sometimes close to giving up under pressure. How do I strengthen them?

Your role is to be a patient and loving support, because a convert's journey is truly full of trials. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, gentleness is not found in anything except that it adorns it” (Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Birr wa as-Silah wa al-Adab). Listen to what they share without judging, and celebrate every small step in their faith. Connect them with the community and other convert friends who understand their struggle. Do not burden them with all the obligations at once; let faith grow gradually. Remind them of the great reward for those who are patient, and pray for their steadfastness. If the pressure is heavy, get help from a counsellor. See counselling.
