Q&A › Rights & responsibilities

🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #323

For the first time we have to make a big decision together and it feels stressful. What do we do?

Big decisions are best made through calm discussion, not a tug-of-war over who is right. Allah describes the believers as those whose “affairs are decided by mutual consultation among them” (Surah asy-Syura 42:38). Gather information together, listen to each other's concerns without interrupting, and list the options and their consequences. Look for a solution you can both accept, and if you are stuck, seek the view of someone trusted and knowledgeable. Once you have discussed it, make the decision and face the outcome together without bringing it up again if it is not perfect. This practice of deciding together builds trust for bigger tests ahead.
