🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #299

How can I calm a jealous heart without pretending the feeling does not exist?

The first step is to admit the jealousy to yourself, because a feeling that is denied will explode in a worse way. Name the feeling honestly, then ask what you are really afraid of behind it, usually the fear of loss or of not being good enough. Bring that feeling to Allah, because “in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (Surah ar-Ra'd 13:28). Once calm, decide whether it needs a conversation with your spouse or just inner management. Avoid acting while your heart is still hot. A feeling that is acknowledged and managed loses its power to do damage. See relationship psychology.
