Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #245

I am relieved my husband has not taken another wife, but I feel guilty as if I am rejecting a sunnah. Is this feeling wrong?

Feeling relieved at the peace of your home is not a sin, and it does not mean you reject Allah's law. Polygyny is a conditional permission, not an obligation on every man, so there is no sunnah you are breaking by remaining his only wife. What is forbidden is hating Allah's law, not feeling at ease with a situation Allah permits. Be grateful for the peace you have and pray that it lasts. If the guilt persists, ask a religious officer to set your heart at rest. See rights of husband and wife.
