Q&A › Polygyny: the law

🏛️ Polygyny: the law · #94

The court approved my husband's polygyny even though I objected. What options do I still have?

You still have options: appeal within the set time, make sure your rights are written into the order, and look after yourself throughout this process. If you believe the decision was wrong, discuss an appeal with a syarie lawyer as soon as possible because the time limit is short. If you do not appeal, check the order and make sure the conditions on maintenance, housing and the children are clear. Record any breach so that it is easy to take to court. If your husband later fails to be fair, you can bring a claim to the Syariah Court. At the same time, get support from a counsellor; your anger and sadness are natural. See women's rights.
