How do we manage school holidays and family trips when the husband has to divide his time between two homes?
Early, agreed planning prevents disappointment and disputes every time the school holidays come round. Sit down with your husband before the holiday season and set a fair division of time, taking into account the needs of the children in both homes. Where suitable, joint activities with the half-siblings can bring them closer, but do not force it if the situation is not ready. Plan activities that you and your children enjoy on the days your husband is with the other family, so the holidays stay meaningful. Avoid turning the holidays into a contest over who gets more time. Flexibility, and an intention to care for the children rather than to win, make holidays calmer for everyone. See rotation.
