🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #127
Our parents have offered to fully fund our wedding. Should we accept?
You can accept it gratefully, as long as you understand what may come with the offer. A gift from parents is a sign of love, but sometimes it carries unspoken expectations, such as the size of the wedding, the guest list or where you live after marriage. Discuss it openly before accepting: ‘Thank you, mum, dad. Can we discuss the shape of the wedding together?’ If only one family is paying, make sure the other family does not feel sidelined or indebted. You can also suggest a smaller wedding and ask for part of the money to be used as capital for your household, if your parents agree. Thank them sincerely, because “Whoever does not thank people does not thank Allah” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4811). See relations with family.
