Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #394

I feel guilty and weak because I have a mental health problem. How should I see it?

Having a mental health problem is not a sin and not a sign that you are weak or ungrateful. Even the prophets and the righteous grieved and were tested; sadness is part of being human. The Prophet Ya'qub said: “Indeed, I only complain of my distress and my sorrow to Allah” (Surah Yusuf 12:86), teaching us to bring our complaints to Him without shame. Treat yourself with the compassion you would show a friend who is ill. Keep up your worship as a support, and accept treatment as part of your effort. Recovery takes time, so be patient with yourself. See mental health.
