Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #76

How do we discuss whether the wife will keep working or studying after marriage?

Discuss expectations about career and study openly before marriage, because unspoken assumptions often blow up later. Ask each other: will the wife keep working or studying, how will housework and children be managed, and what support is expected. Respect your partner's ambitions and do not make promises you do not intend to keep just to win them over. If you agree on matters such as the wife continuing to work, you can include it as a condition in the akad; ask the religious office how. Early clarity spares you the feeling of having been deceived later. See rights of husband and wife.
