🕌 Worship in the home · #45
When praying at home with no one else present, must a wife still cover all of her aurat?
Yes. Covering the aurat is a condition for the prayer to be valid, not merely because others are present; for a woman according to the Shafi'i school, her aurat in prayer is the whole body except the face and the palms of the hands.
Allah commands wearing good clothing at every place of prayer (al-A'raf 7:31). Things often overlooked: feet and soles exposed during prostration or sitting, forearms exposed when raising the hands, hair slipping out of the prayer garment, and thin fabric that shows the colour of the skin. Wear socks or a long cloth, and make sure the telekung is not see-through. A husband leading prayer at home can help by reminding gently. Girls are trained to wear the telekung from young so that it becomes a habit. See Prayer guide and Modesty & boundaries.

Difference between schools. Some scholars of the Hanafi school hold that a woman's feet are not aurat in prayer.
