Pre-seminal fluid (madhi) came out during intimacy with one's spouse. Is the obligatory bath required?
No; madhi does not require the obligatory bath. It is impure and must be washed, and it breaks wudu.
ʿAli r.a. often had madhi and asked someone to ask the Prophet ﷺ, who replied: perform wudu and wash your private part (Sahih al-Bukhari 269). Madhi is a clear, slippery fluid released with arousal without spurting and without climax, unlike semen, which requires the bath. Clothing touched by madhi must have that spot washed before prayer; in the Shafi'i school it is a medium impurity. Women may also release a similar fluid during intimacy, and the ruling is the same. The obligatory bath is required by the emission of semen or by intercourse even without emission. When fasting, madhi does not break the fast according to the Shafi'i school. See Wudu & the obligatory bath.
