I have found that an elderly person in our family is being abused or neglected. What should I do?
An elderly person who is abused or neglected must be protected at once; keeping silent is not protecting the family's honour, but allowing injustice. If there is danger to their life or body right now, call the police on 999 immediately. For advice and support, contact Talian Kasih 15999. Make sure the elderly person is safe, get medical treatment if they are injured, and do not leave them with the person who is hurting them. Keep a record of what you see. Abuse includes hitting, shouting at them, withholding food or medicine, and wrongfully taking their money. Take this matter to an authority that can act, such as the Social Welfare Department (JKM). Protecting the weak is a religious duty. See mental health.
