How can we create screen-free family time that is actually kept every day?
Screen-free time works when it is regular, includes everyone including the parents, and is filled with something enjoyable. Choose a reasonable time such as dinner, and set up a special place where everyone puts their phones. The rules must apply equally; children find it hard to accept if parents are exempt. Fill the time with conversation, games, reading or worship together so it is looked forward to, not felt as a punishment. Start with a short period and lengthen it once it becomes a habit. Do not give up if some days slip; pick it up again the next day. Consistency builds a family culture of being more present with each other. See family digital life.
