Q&A › Family finances

💰 Family finances · #71

My husband does not let me hold any money of my own at all, and I have to ask for every need. Is this right?

Denying you any money of your own so that you have to plead for every need is a form of control, not healthy responsibility. A wife is entitled to sufficient maintenance (nafkah) and room to manage her own needs with dignity. If you feel belittled or threatened, call the police on 999 if you are in danger, and Talian Kasih 15999 for advice. Try discussing a fixed allowance for your needs, and if that is refused with threats, it is a sign of control. Syariah Court officers can help set reasonable maintenance. You are not a beggar in your own home. See family finances.
