How do we tell the difference between managing a budget together and financial abuse by a spouse?

A healthy budget is planned together and for everyone's good, while financial abuse uses money to frighten, control and belittle. In a healthy home, both spouses know the financial situation, can discuss it, and basic needs are met. In abuse, one person hides information, withholds necessities and punishes through money. If you feel afraid or unsafe when raising money matters, that is a serious warning sign; call the police on 999 if you are in danger, and Talian Kasih 15999 for advice. Talk to a counsellor if you are unsure where your situation stands. Trusting your feelings matters. See family finances.
