Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #92

I am afraid of getting stuck saying the qabul (acceptance) in front of everyone. How do I prepare?

Almost every groom is nervous; with the right preparation, saying the qabul is much easier than you imagine. Ask the officiant for the wording that will be used well in advance and memorise it slowly. Practise out loud, not in your head, in front of one or two people you trust. On the day, take a deep breath, listen to the ijab (offer) to the end, then answer straight away calmly. If you make a mistake, the akad can be repeated and that is quite normal. Increase your dhikr before entering the ceremony. Allah says: “Remember that in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (Surah ar-Ra'd 13:28). See if the qabul gets stuck.
