Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #91

What should we check in the last week before the marriage contract (akad nikah)?

Confirm first the things that determine whether the akad is valid, and only then the reception arrangements. Make sure the permission to marry and the documents are complete, the wali knows the time and place, two witnesses have been appointed, and the officiant (jurunikah) has confirmed attendance. Prepare the mahr in the agreed form. Then check the event arrangements: the schedule, a calm space for the akad, the sound system and who will receive guests. Appoint a ‘head of the akad day’ other than the bride, groom and parents, so everyone knows whom to contact. Finally, sleep well and cut down the task list on the night before. See checklists.
