Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #69

How can I honestly assess whether I am really ready for polygyny?

True readiness is measured by the ability to carry two households justly, not by how strong the desire is. Ask yourself honestly: is my existing family well looked after and happy? Can my finances cover additional maintenance (nafkah) without wronging anyone? Can I divide my time and attention justly? Is my intention free of escape, mere desire or other people's pressure? If even one answer is no, that is a signal to wait or to stop. Use the readiness tool on this site as a guide, pray istikharah, and ask honest knowledgeable people for their view. Being honest with yourself saves many hearts. See polygyny readiness tool.
