What sunnah practices on the morning of Hari Raya can a family observe together?
Among them are bathing and wearing one's best clothes, eating an odd number of dates before going out for the ʿEid al-Fitr prayer, reciting the takbir, going and returning by different routes, and forgiving one another and visiting relatives.
Anas r.a. narrated that the Prophet ﷺ did not go out on the morning of ʿEid al-Fitr until he had eaten some dates in an odd number (Sahih al-Bukhari 953), and Jabir r.a. said he returned from the ʿEid prayer by a different route from the one he went by (Sahih al-Bukhari 986). Allah tells us to glorify Him for His guidance once the number of fasts is complete (al-Baqarah 2:185), the basis of the takbir. Zakat al-fitr is paid before the ʿEid prayer. Make the morning a time to forgive one's spouse and family sincerely, not merely as custom. In polygamous families, plan the ʿEid morning rota fairly. See the question on the Hari Raya rota.
