What supplications for children are taught in the Quran?
The Quran records several prayers of the prophets asking for offspring, and they can be recited at any time, especially after prayer and at times when prayers are answered.
Among them is the prayer of Zakariya: My Lord, grant me from Yourself good offspring; You are the Hearer of prayer (Al ʿImran 3:38), and: My Lord, do not leave me alone, and You are the best of inheritors (al-Anbiya' 21:89). The prayer of Ibrahim: My Lord, grant me a child from among the righteous (as-Saffat 37:100). Also the prayer for spouses and offspring who are the comfort of our eyes (al-Furqan 25:74). Zakariya was granted a child when he was old and his wife barren, showing that prayer is never wasted. Prayer goes together with effort: fertility checks for both husband and wife, and treatment permitted by the Shariah. See Fertility.
